OFFICIAL RULES:
HOW
TO ENTER
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Enter by
printing your name, date of birth, your parent’s/guardian’s
name (if contestant is under 18), full address,
and phone number on either an 8.5 x 11 piece of
paper or an online print-out entry at www.alagaesia.com
and include the answers to the three following Eragon/Eldest
trivia questions: What is the Elvish name for the
Burning Plains? What is the Elvish name for the
tailbone of the Spine? Just before the bird Blagden
arrives in Eragon's residence with perplexing riddles,
Eragon is trying to calm his restless nerves by
reading an Elvish epic. Who is the author of this
epic? Mail to The Eragon Movie Premiere Sweepstakes,
Random House Children’s Books, Marketing Department,
1745 Broadway, MD: 10-2, New York, NY 10019. Entries
must be mailed separately and received by Random
House between June 20, 2006 and November 1, 2006
(“Entry Deadline”). LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER FAMILY.
Partially completed or illegible entries will not
be accepted. Sponsors will not be responsible for
lost, early, late, mutilated, illegible, stolen,
postage due, incomplete or misdirected entries.
All entries become the property of Random House
and will not be returned, so please keep a copy
for your records.
ELIGIBILITY
Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the fifty
(50) United States, and the District of Columbia,
and Canada, excluding the Province of Quebec, who
are 8 years of age or older on November 1, 2006.
All federal, state and local laws and regulations
apply. All Canadian entrants must correctly answer,
without assistance, a mathematical skill-testing
question before they can be declared winners. Void
wherever prohibited or restricted by law. Employees
of Random House Inc., Twentieth Century Fox, Vivendi
Games, and their parent companies, assigns, subsidiaries
or affiliates, and advertising, promotion, and fulfillment
agencies; their immediate family members, and persons
living in their household are not eligible to enter
this Sweepstakes.
PRIZES
There will be one (1) Grand Prize Winner selected
and ten (10) Runners Up selected. One Grand Prize
Winner will win four (4) tickets to the movie premiere
of Eragon for: him/herself, one (1) parent or legal
guardian (if winner is under 18), and two (2) others,
roundtrip coach airfare for four (4) departing from
the major U.S. or Canadian gateway airport nearest
to winner's home, a hotel stay for 2 nights (one
room; quadruple occupancy), ground transportation
to and from the airport while in premiere city,
and ground transportation to and from the movie
premiere. (Approximate retail value $3000.00 US);
actual ARV may vary depending on the winner’s city
of departure and time of year. All incidental expenses
and taxes not specified herein will be the sole
responsibility of the winner and his/her travel
companions, including without limitation food, beverages
and alcoholic beverages. Travel and lodging are
subject to availability and certain travel restrictions
and blackout dates may apply. Winner and travel
companions must travel on the same itinerary. Travel
and use of accommodation are at risk of Winner and
Winner's parent/legal guardian (if winner is under
18) and Random House Inc., Twentieth Century Fox,
and Vivendi Games do not assume any liability. Ten
(10) runners up will receive an Eragon interactive
video game. (Approximate retail value $50.00 US);
If for any reason prize is not available or cannot
be fulfilled, Random House Inc. reserves the right
to substitute a prize of equal or greater value,
including, but not limited to, cash equivalent.
All federal, state, and local taxes, if any, are
the Winner's (or winner’s parent or legal guardian
if winner is under 18) full and sole responsibility.
Prizes are not transferable and cannot be assigned.
No prize or cash substitutes allowed, except at
the discretion of the sponsor as set forth above.
WINNERS
Potential Winners will be chosen on or around November
15, 2006, from all eligible entries received by
the Random House Marketing Department within the
Entry Deadline. Winners will be randomly selected
from the entries with the 3 correct answers by the
Random House Marketing Department staff, whose decisions
are final. If the winner is under 18, the prize
will be awarded in the name of the winner's parent
or legal guardian. Winner or winner’s parent or
legal guardian will be notified by mail on or about
November 15, 2006 and the winner, the winner’s parents/legal
guardians, and other travel companions will be required
to sign and return affidavit(s) of eligibility and
release of liability within 14 days of notification.
Any noncompliance with the 14-day time period or
the return of any notification as undeliverable
will result in disqualification and the selection
of an alternate winner by sponsor. In the event
of any other noncompliance with rules and conditions,
prize may be awarded to an alternate winner.
RESERVATIONS
By participating, participants and winners (and
winners’ parent/legal guardian) agrees that Random
House, Inc., Twentieth Century Fox, Vivendi Games,
and their parent companies, assigns, subsidiaries
or affiliates, advertising, promotion, fulfillment
agencies, and suppliers will have no liability whatsoever,
and will be held harmless by participants and winners
(and participants’ and winners’ parent/legal guardian
or travel companies) for any liability for any injuries,
losses, or damages of any kind to person, including
death, and property resulting in whole or in part,
directly or indirectly, from the acceptance, possession,
misuse, or use of the prize, or participation in
this Sweepstakes. Winner and Winner's travel companions
will be required to complete, sign, notarize and
return and Affidavit of Eligibility & Liability/Publicity
Release before claiming prize. Failure to do so
will result in disqualification of the winner and
an alternate winner will be selected. By entering
the Sweepstakes the Winner or Winners’ parent or
legal guardian (if winner is under 18) consents
to the use of the Winners’ name, likeness, and biographical
data for publicity and promotional purposes on behalf
of Random House, Inc. and Twentieth Century Fox,
with no additional compensation or further permission,
worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms
of media now known or hereafter devised, including
without limitation the Internet, unless prohibited
by law. All other entry names will NOT be used for
subsequent mail solicitation. For the name of the
winner, available after December 1, 2006, or a copy
of these Official Rules (please specify), please
send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Random
